The project grew out of my interest in farming and food as a connection to the land and how it informs our sense of identity. My discussion with the residents of my housing society located at Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, India, and the debates around unaffordability of organic food made me conceive this urban farming project with my friend Vijay Yelmalle. The aim of the project was to grow chemical-free food with minimal expenses and maintenance. It was a way of developing the habit of safe food practice and self-care through small scale community gardening. The garden was also used as onsite training unit on aquaponics farming.
